How to do basic first aid?

Reading this will take you: minutes

You can be faced by an unexpected situation at any time in which a relative chokes or has a heart attack when you are with them, or you might see an incident of this kind in any public place. Knowing how to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (or RCP in the Spanish abbreviation) or how to do the Heimlich manoeuvre on someone who is choking may help save lives.

According to the Spanish Heart Foundation, a heart massage and the use of a defibrillator in the five minutes after the cardiac arrest increases the chances of survival by up to 90%. It must therefore be done immediately to allow the necessary oxygen to reach the brain until the heart rate is restored.

If there is no defibrillator available, we can do it with our own hands. How? In this video, two instructors from the Plan Nacional de RCP and members of the Heart Protection Teaching and Research Unit of the Hospital Doce de Octubre (UDIC) show us what to do.
